HMRC Shift from Traditional PAYE Payments
As part of our commitment to keeping you informed about payroll legislation and industry updates, we wanted to bring your attention to an upcoming change announced by HMRC that will impact the way employers make PAYE payments.
The Transition Away from Traditional Methods
In a move toward modernization, HMRC has decided to retire the traditional method of making PAYE payments using payment booklets. This transition began in April 2015 when HMRC stopped automatically issuing payment booklets to new employers. As of April 6, 2024, HMRC will discontinue the use of payment booklets entirely.
Embracing Online Payment Methods
Employers are now encouraged to make their PAYE payments through HMRC’s online platform, Pay Employers’ PAYE or directly through their business tax account. According to HMRC, paying online is not only convenient but also the quickest and most secure way to ensure that your payment is received and processed promptly.
Alternative Payment Options
While online payment is the preferred method, employers still have the option to send a cheque by post. If opting for this method, it is crucial to include the Accounts Office Reference number on the back of the cheque.
